There cannot be many people in Wiltshire swimming that haven’t had reason to thank either Bo or Dick for the contribution they will have made to swimming. Whether it be serving on Committees, working on the poolside with swimmers, or in the classroom learning new skills, this remarkable partnership have been at the heart of the sport in Wiltshire for close on 50 years.
Their achievements in that time are too numerous to catalogue in detail, but include working on County Courses – including the Easter Courses held at Pewsey & Wroughton for over 30 years, working at Club level, improving the standard of swimming generally, and serving on countless County committees.
Both have been actively involved in training teachers and coaches with remarkable success, making the sport accessible to many teachers and coaches who have stayed in the sport teaching and coaching swimming. Between them, they will have been responsible for teaching, either directly or indirectly, thousands of adults and children to swim, staying safe in and around water.
Both felt it was time to retire, but the County are pleased to say that they will remain available to help others learn from their knowledge and experience in the years to come.
We wish them both, their health and happiness in the future, and hope to see them regularly working closely with the swimming family here in Wiltshire. In presenting them with a token of our esteem, Maurice Cleaver, County Chairman read from the inscription on their Dartington Glass Vase which simply read “thank you both, for your huge contribution to our sport”. That says it all…….
